Faith of the Centurion | Matthew 8:5-13

What does real faith look like?
In Matthew 8:5–13, Jesus encounters a Roman centurion whose faith causes Him to marvel. This Gentile military officer does not demand signs, rituals, or Jesus’ physical presence. Instead, he submits himself fully to Jesus’ authority, trusting that Christ’s word alone is sufficient.
In this sermon, we explore what it means to have a faith that flourishes—not by controlling outcomes, but by resting under Jesus’ authority. We also hear Jesus’ sobering warning against presuming we belong to God’s kingdom based on heritage, morality, or religious involvement rather than genuine faith.
This passage calls us to examine where we may be resisting trust, clinging to control, or confusing proximity to the kingdom with true submission to the King.
