Jesus' Authority to Forgive Sin | Matthew 9:1-38

In Matthew 9, we see Jesus demonstrate His authority over every form of brokenness—sin, sickness, death, blindness, and spiritual oppression. Through a series of miracles, Matthew shows that Jesus is not merely a teacher or prophet, but the One who has authority to forgive sins.  From the healing of the paralytic to the raising of Jairus’ daughter, each encounter reveals the compassion and power of Christ. These miracles also point back to the promises of the Old Testament, showing that Jesus is the Messiah God promised—the One who restores the broken and brings the kingdom of God.  Yet even in the face of undeniable evidence, some respond with faith while others respond with opposition. This passage calls us to ask how we will respond to Jesus and His authority.
