Marriage, Divorce, and Singleness | Matthew 19:1-12

We live in a culture that treats marriage as disposable and singleness as a consolation prize — but Jesus offers a different vision entirely. In Matthew 19:1–12, when the Pharisees try to trap Jesus with a question about divorce, he points them back to God’s original design for marriage — permanent, covenantal, and reflecting the faithful love of Christ for his church. And when his disciples wonder if marriage is even worth it, Jesus reframes singleness too: not as something to escape or endure, but as a gift to be stewarded for the sake of the kingdom. Whether married or single, our identity was never meant to rest in our relationship status — it rests in Christ alone. This week, we look at how easily we cheapen the good gifts God has given us, and how his grace enables us to see the treasure in what he has designed.
