Retaliation and Generosity | Matthew 5:38-42

In Matthew 5:38–42, Jesus confronts our natural desire to retaliate and calls his followers to trust God with their honour, rights, and defence. Rather than seeking payback, kingdom citizens are freed by the gospel to respond with generosity.

This sermon explores how God’s law was given to restrain vengeance, how it was distorted into personal retaliation, and how Jesus redirects his disciples toward a life shaped by grace. Because our honour is secure in Christ and our inheritance is kept by God, we can afford to lose here and live generously for God’s glory.
