Holding on to the True Treasure | Matthew 19:16-30

We all hold onto something we believe will save us — our success, our reputation, our good works, our sense of control. In this message from Matthew 19:16–30, Pastor Nathan walks through the story of the rich young ruler, a man who came to Jesus certain he'd done enough to earn eternal life, only to walk away sorrowful when Jesus asked him to let go of the one thing he treasured most.
Through this passage, we're confronted with a hard truth: eternal life was never something we could purchase through good behavior — it's an inheritance, freely given by a Father, not a wage earned from an employer. And when we finally let go of what we've been holding onto, we discover what the rich young man couldn't see: that in Jesus, we inherit far more than we ever gave up.
