The Merciful Woes | Matthew 11:20-24
March 29, 2026

Jesus’ strongest warnings are not directed at His enemies—but at those who were closest to Him.
In this sermon on Matthew 11:20–24, we explore the “merciful woes” Jesus pronounces over cities that had seen His miracles and heard His message, yet refused to repent.
This passage reminds us that:
- Hearing is not repenting
- Familiarity is not faith
- Proximity to Jesus does not equal relationship with Him
The more clearly Jesus is revealed, the greater our responsibility to respond.
Yet even in judgment, there is mercy. Jesus warns so that we would turn, repent, and believe.
Don’t mistake being around Jesus for being right with Him.
